Wi-Fi Security

question

How can you increase the security of your home WiFi network?

  • Set a secure password
  • Disable SSID on your router
  • Use WEP encryption
  • Enable MAC address filtering on your router
  • Not sure

Main insights

When it comes to home network security, people who took the test were not quite sure about what needs to be done. Only slightly under 65% knew that setting a strong password is a good idea, while more advanced options such as disabling SSID and enabling MAC address filtering barely crossed the 25% mark. Around 36% thought using WEP encryption would help – most likely prompted by the word “encryption.” However, WEP is the least secure of the mainstream protocols for encrypting routers, and using WPA2 would be a much better choice.
